Escalade 6L80 finally gave up at 190k, got it rebuilt locally and I'm cautiously optimistic
My 2015 Escalade ESV has been a loyal family hauler for years with nothing major outside of the usual suspension air pump nonsense but about three weeks ago on a run to the airport the transmission started slipping in fourth gear like it was just revving into thin air and by the time I limped it home the check engine light was flashing and I had that sinking feeling in my stomach knowing these 6L80s are notorious for the torque converter taking out the pump when they go, especially with the kind of mileage I've put on it hauling kids and groceries around Sharjah and the occasional heavy right foot on SMBZ. Took it to a spot that was recommended on a local WhatsApp group and they dropped the pan to find the expected glitter party in the fluid so we went ahead with a full overhaul, new converter, upgraded billet parts for the weak spots, and the whole valve body was gone through, and I'm just now at about 800km on the break in period and everything feels tight and responsive again which is a massive relief because the alternative was trying to find a clean used Escalade in this market for a reasonable price and that's its own circle of frustration. I'd been searching for a Cadillac Gearbox Overhaul Center Sharjah for a while before this happened just to have a backup plan in my back pocket and honestly I think I lucked out because the place I ended up at actually knew about the updated thermal bypass valve that helps keep these things alive in our heat and they didn't try to upsell me on anything unnecessary, they just laid out what was broken and what it would take to fix it properly. Fingers crossed this thing makes it another 190k now because I really don't want to have this conversation with my bank account again anytime soon.
